Flight Lieutenant Kevin Powell started his RAF Air Cadets career as a cadet at 1051 (Dartford) Squadron, rising to the rank of Cadet Sergeant before leaving to join the Royal Air Force in 1992. Initially training as an electrician, Flt Lt Powell became a Secure Communications Specialist with the rank of Junior Technician. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on the day he left in 2002. He returned to Dartford Squadron as an Adult Warrant Officer, before transferring to 173 (Orpington) Squadron in 2003. He started his first term at 1039 (Gillingham) Squadron the following year, leaving to become Officer in Charge of 25 (Parkwood) Squadron in 2011. He was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in January 2012 and returned to Gillingham Squadron as Officer Commanding in August 2015, with the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He is also the Deputy Fieldcraft Officer for Kent Wing.
Outside of the RAF Air Cadets, Flt Lt Powell helps to run a warehouse for Knauf UK. He is married to Dawn and they have two sons, Max and Isaac.
